Regional
Whilst the quality of winemaking in the classic regions of France has undoubtedly improved over the last 20 years, it is in the less famous regions that the biggest changes have occurred. Poor wine destined for EU subsidised distillation is still made, but the quality and variety available at the other end of the scale improves every year. The 2010 harvest was of fine quality, although smaller than usual putting some pressure on price.  There are wines here to suit every taste, from elegant and ethereal Pinot Noir, spicy and savoury reds to the firm, structured and powerful. These are the regions to explore if quality, variety and value are what you seek.
The producer
LGI was founded in 1999 by Alain Grignon. He had formerly been head of cooperatives in Gascogny and was frustrated by many aspects of the domestic French wine industry, so with his partners, he set up a business to cater solely to export markets. As well as running a team of winemakers and viticulturalists sourcing fruit in the Languedoc, predominantly in St Chinian and also in the Côtes de Gascogne, he is involved with a selection of top class individual domaines. His company is now one of the most respected sources of high quality and reliable wines from the region and is the source of our 'house' wines.
Winemaking
The fruit is destemmed and lightly crushed before fermentation in stainlesssteel tanks using selected yeasts at a temperature of 28ºC with twice dailyremontage. There follows 8 days maceration before the wine is run off to tankfor 4 months maturation with French oak staves prior to bottling.
