The Producer
The Dowie Doole boys established their own McLaren Vale winery in the mid-nineties, having grown increasingly frustrated with watching their grapes being trucked off to other wineries.

Their main aim has been to produce classic McLaren Vale wines that are more elegant and refined in style than mainstream Australian wines. Their 50
hectares of vines are spread between their home vineyard and four others: Tintookie, Old Rifle Range, California Road and Wetlands Vineyards. Only the finest fruit is used with state of the art modern Winemaking technology.

In addition, the team are committed to increasing bio-diversity in the vineyards. As well as cultivating more uncommon varietals for Australia such as Chenin and Tempranillo, it is their premium Shiraz for which they are best known.

Tasting notes
A beautiful bouquet of dark berries, liquorice and spices. The palate is long and flavoursome exhibiting blackcurrant and dark chocolate flavours complemented by spicy, vanillan oak. The tannins are fine, long and soft making it ideal for early drinking or short term maturation.

Chateau Grand Village Rouge, Bordeaux Superieur

The red is usually a blend of Cabernet Franc and Merlot. There is only a very small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon planted here as the soil, as in Pomerol, is rich in clay. The blend is usually 60% Cabernet Franc and 40% Merlot and aged in barriques for 12 to 1 months, with only a small proportion of new wood, never more than 20%. The result is a supple and harmonious claret with deceptive levels of concentration and definition and it generally drinks well from three to ten years after harvest. Colour: Red
