Quite simply - it's exquisite!

The 2008 red - a magical vintage combining four essential qualities; "Body - finesse - savour - elegance"

A truly great grand cru only has two masters, the terroir and the intrinsic quality of the year!  The vigneron comes in third: he is their servant, not their master.  Although the terroir has the last word, it's the years weather which dictates the final result.  Only when all conditions are favourable can the genie of the terroir work its magic and bring rare, outstanding vintages into being.

The 2008 vintage is the result of everything coming together perfectly.

Water first!  Just the right amout and always just when it was needed: a little rain in May, July, August and September and a lot in June meant water arrived just as the grapes needed it most.

Then came the heat!  Moderate but warm enough to ensure the grapes matured slowly and steadily with no nasty shocks.
And, to crown these ideal conditions, the harvest only started on 15 September just as the weather was cooling so the sun wa unable to bake the delicate savours or provoke excess alcohol.

The vigneron is quite clear: this is an exquisite vintage!  One to lay down!  It is a vintage on a par with 1978, 1988 and 1998.  The number eight was a symbol of harmony for Pythagoras, the symbol for infinity for Pascal ... and for us ... the day of the resurrection - the eighth day.  Truly the number eight is a sign of excellence!
