Chateau la Tourette, Pauillac

La Tourette is the name of a three hectare plot in the far west of the Pauillac appellation, neighbouring the vineyards of Lynch Bages, Les Forts de Latour and Batailley. The site was planted in 1966, primarily with Cabernet Sauvignon vines, and bought by Château Larose Trintaudon who included the grapes in their wine from 1986 to 1992.

In 1993 the grapes were hand harvested and matured in new French oak barrels for 12 – 15 months and the tiny yield of Château La Tourette was bottled separately under its own label and is increasingly recognised by the wine press as a rising star of Pauillac: Decanter magazine rated the 1995 vintage second only to Mouton Rothschild, and the 2000 was one of Wine Spectator’s top picks. It was so successful in fact, that all this resulted in the sale of the vineyard to Château Latour, making the last vintage (2003) under the La Tourette label a collector’s item.
