Hungary

Prior to the re-introduction of democracy in the 1990s, the Hungarian wine industry was moribund.  The state wineries and vineyards were in a dreadful state and many were being sold off.  However, with foreign investment, the industry has been transformed and given a new lease of life.  As a result, Hungary is gaining a reputation for producing characterful white wines.  I believe it can only get better.
