Rhone, France

The Rhone is probably our favourite French wine region. It manages to produce wines of complexity and deep flavours yet without the hefty price tags of Bordeaux and Burgundy. A very satisfying combination. We are particularly fond of the wines from Domaine Saladin in the Ardeche. A family-owned vineyard, which can trace its history back to the 15th century, it is now run with great flair by youthful sisters, Elisabeth and Marie-Laurence Saladin, although Papa still keeps a watchful eye on proceedings!

Another favourite is Andre Brunel's wines of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. A very traditional winemaker, he puts as much effort into making his everyday Vin de Pays wines as his top of the range Chateauneufs.
