Casa Silva
Run by fifth-generation family members, Vina Casa Silva is the oldest vineyard in the Colchagua Valley and internationally recognized as one of the leading producers of premium wine in Chile.
Started by Emilio Bouchon, an émigré from Bordeaux who arrived in Chile in 1892, he saw the potential of the Colchagua region and pioneered the growing of vines. Some of today’s date back to 1912. The high-quality grapes produced were not only vinified in the family company cellar but also sold to other companies for export.
Over the years, however, as subsequent generations took control, both vineyards and cellar were divided between family members, and parts were sold off as some sold their shares. But, in 1977, when fourth-generation Mario Silva Cifuentes, who had married into the Bouchon family, came into the business, he saw the untapped potential of the area and began buying back the land and cellars as well as planting new vines at Angostura. A visionary, he experimented with new techniques and new plantings and, with the company re-established, he also began selling to other exporting companies.
Twenty years after Mario Silva’s arrival, his son, Mario Pablo, suggested that they radically upgrade the business from bulk selling to a prestige bottling company under the family’s own brand. And so Casa Silva was created.
Mario Pablo's brothers, Francisco and Gonzalo, duly joined the family firm and so began the strong family team that continues building the strength of the business. In recent years, Viña Casa Silva has become one of Chile’s most highly awarded wineries.
